Class Descriptions
“We Have To Talk”
Don’t worry - we’re not upset; we just want to change your dancing forever. We will begin with breaking out of our dominant role and practice switch dancing, where both partners swap roles as lead and follow during the dance. Even within switch dancing, however, lead/follow relationships are often one direction: the lead dictates the dance. We will discover how to create conversation within a dance, where both lead and follow contribute equally. We will explore questions such as, “Can a follow initiate movement without becoming the lead?” If you’re excited by the idea of dynamic conversations with your partner to inspire movement and play, be here for this class.
Grammar School for Dancers
Now that we’ve opened up to conversational dancing, let’s improve the quality of the communication. This class is all about optimizing our connection for clear expression and creating room to play. A good connection provides the “grammatical structure” to express our ideas to our partner. We will explore the many ways of connecting, the mechanics behind dancing within your own body while staying connected to a partner, and their creative applications to conversational dance.
Guided Practica
Apply the many concepts you learn throughout the day in a guided practica. This environment is an valuable opportunity for you to assimilate all the new ideas into your dance. We strongly encourage you to stick around for the practica.
Class Level
This workshop is intended for intermediate level and up. If you’re not sure if that means you, just ask!
Pricing
Sliding scale $40 - $80, pay what you can afford.
If you can’t afford the bottom range, please talk to us ([email protected]) and we will work something out! We want you to come.
